Vancouver

Day 1

The last 2 days of my trip across Canada are here, at Vancouver, British Columbia. Vancouver recently hosted the Winter Olympics (WHERE CANADA DESTROYED). I wish we came when they were going on, because that would be amazing to see. Anyways, at Vancouver, we are planning to see “Kooza” from Cirque du Soleil, the H.R. Macmillan Space Centre, the Vancouver Aquarium, and the Capilano Suspension Bridge. The hotel we chose to stay at was the Fairmont Hotel. After eating breakfast there, we spent the middle of the day (from roughly 10 - 4) at the Vancouver Aquarium. An aquarium is another place, where I feel bad for the poor animals. They are giving the tiniest amount of space to swim around in ever. A fish / shark / whale, etc, normally has the entire ocean to swim around in. In an aquarium, the fish / shark / whale, etc, has all of the size of a school, at the most. After spending 5 - 6 hours feeling bad for the underwater animals, we sat down for a nice dinner at Herons Restaurant. The food there was pretty expensive, averaging from $30 - $40 per person. Once we enjoyed our delectable food, my family and I experienced the coolest show in the world. Known worldwide, we watched “Kooza” from Cirque du Soleil. This was absolutely amazing. The way the contortionists pulled and stretched their limbs blew me away. After the truly tremendous show, we retired back to the Fairmont Hotel to get some rest for tomorrow.

Day 2

Falling asleep was extremely hard last night. I just lay in bed, remembering about Cirque du Soleil. “Kooza” was probably the best performance I have ever seen. What we had planned for today may not be as amazing as Cirque du Soleil, but still seem fun. In the morning, my family and I traveled to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. The Capilano Suspension Bridge is 450 feet (135 m) across and 230 feet (70 m) above the Capilano River. During the walk across, I was tempted to push over Greg, and have him fall into the rocky river, hoping that he would fall directly on a pointed rock. Aren’t I a nice twin? :) Well I am, which is why I did not push him over. After having my mom squeal while taking a solid hour just to walk across, we grabbed a bite to eat, and drove to the H.R MacMillan Space Centre. My favourite part about the space centre, was that it had a virtual flight simulator. I enjoy simulators, because it seems that you are actually doing something, that you would usually not have a chance / be able to do in real life. We were just about to leave, when I spotted the most amazing souvenir. It was a porcupine astronaut driving a space shuttle. Obviously, I had to buy this extraordinary item. Unfortunately, my trip across Canada was coming to an end. When we were back at the Fairmont Hotel, we packed up our suitcases, and started our exciting trip back to St. Catharines in a van with my family.

Edmonton

Day 1

I had a late night last night, due to a traffic build up that took almost 3 hours just to get out of it. Waking up was extremely hard to today. My family and I finally got up at 11:00. My parents apologized for the late night by letting us enjoy the buffet brunch that they had available at The Westin Hotel. The first attraction we had on for the day was the Valley Zoo. I particularly do not enjoy zoos, because I always bad for the animals trapped there. The only fun part of the zoo, was when we went to the gift shop, and I found and purchased another porcupine. After purchasing Quillian 2, we picked up some burgers before we left the zoo. My family and I then drove to La Cite (L’uni Theatre) to watch RENT. Once the wonderful show ended, we headed straight back to the hotel to fall asleep.

Day 2

Once again, we all woke up late, because we were all still exhausted from two days ago. Today we planned to spend from 10:00 until 2:00 at the Alberta Aviation Museum, and then spend the rest of the day at the West Edmonton Mall. So after eating an extremely quick breakfast at our hotel, we drove to the Alberta Aviation Museum. The Aviation Museum had various models planes of many sorts. They ranged from the first plane ever built, to blueprints and ideas of futuristic aircraft. For some reason, at the gift shop there was a plane with a PORCUPINE as its pilot. Obviously, I had to purchase this amazing item. I was pumped for the West Edmonton Mall. When we arrived, Greg and I headed straight for Galaxyland. Galaxyland is the world’s largest indoor amusement park. It consists of 26 rides. My favourite was The Mindbender. This is the world’s largest triple-loop roller coaster. My brother and I didn’t explore that much of the mall. The only time we left the amusement park, was because we ran out of money. When this tragic incident occurred, Greg and I ran to our dad for more. The Bank of Sayliss was successful once again. This ended the day, so we packed up and started our drive over to Vancouver.

Sudbury

Day 1

Sudbury has a lot of interactive and fun activities to do there. Today, I went to Science North, and then had fun paint balling. We stayed at the Ambassador Hotel. After waking up from their extremely cozy bed, my family and I had breakfast at the hotel and then left. We drove to Science North to learn, explore, and broaden our knowledge. This was surprisingly fun. We had a quick lunch there, and visited some more of their fascinating exhibits. The last thing we saw there was Quillian the porcupine. He was so amazing that I had to buy a souvenir of him. After experiencing Science North, my parents drove me and my brother Greg (who is also my twin) (I’m sure you already know that though), to go paint balling, while the rest of my family watched a movie at the Rainbow Cinema. After demolishing Greg at paint ball, we had a late dinner back at the hotel, went swimming, worked on my 6-pack (there was a weight room), and fell asleep.

Day 2

Today, we went out to Aggie’s Family Restaurant to have breakfast. Today, my family and I went to the same type of attractions that we did yesterday. The first, thing on our list-to-do-today was Dynamic Earth. This was another interactive learning centre. I also got to see the Big Nickel again, and took some pictures standing next to it. For one of the pictures, I stood close to the camera so I looked the same size as it (I just thought that would look cool). After picking up some hot dogs for lunch from a vendor on the street, we went mini golfing. Of course (ha ha ha), because of my mad golfing skills, I finished the 18 holes with a score of 17.5. This finished the amazing, fun time I had in Sudbury.

Stratford

Day 1

For the first day in Stratford we planned on seeing the Wings of Paradise Butterfly Conservatory, and then later on after dinner, watch Peter Pan at the Stratford Shakespeare Theatre. After waking up and eating a wonderful breakfast at the Arden Park Hotel (which we are staying at). My family then traveled to the Butterfly Conservatory. We spent the majority of the day there (from 10:00 to 4:00). My family and I then found a place to eat dinner. We quickly gobble up our food, and rush over to the largest classical repertoire in all of North America, the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Theatre. My parents decided to buy tickets for Peter Pan. This is because they new it would be suitable for my little brother. The show was amazing. The first day at Stratford was awesome.

Day 2

Today, I the best Sunday Brunch in the world. I pretty much ran around piling everything in site onto my plate. After finishing my wonderful brunch, we headed to the Japanese Garden to walk around and observe the natural beauty. Today was an outside kind of day. In the afternoon, we were trapped inside one of North America’s largest corn mazes, the Ontario Maze. Four hours later, my family and I finally escaped from the maze and drove over to Rundles Restaurant for dinner. They had delicious but extremely expensive food. For one appetizer, one main dish, and one dessert, it cost $55.50 (this is true by the way). After blowing $300 dollars to eat, we packed up and started driving towards Sudbury.

Halifax

Day 1

Today my family planned to visit the World Peace Pavillion, and the Pier 21 Historic Site. After having a wonderful brunch buffet at the hotel we are staying at (Atlantica Hotel Halifax), we headed over to the World Peace Pavillion in Ferry Terminal Park. At the World Peace Pavillion, there were numerous items from countries all over the world. Every country was invited to share some of their country’s history / background. Some of the artifacts included a brick from the Great Wall of China, a piece of the Berlin Wall. Over 75 countries have contributed to the World Peace Pavillion, giving us an amazing cultural and global experience. After this splendid morning at the World Peace Pavillion, my family ate lunch at The Wooden Monkey. I had a scallop and almond salad:

Scallop and Almond Salad
Local scallops cooked golden brown, nestled in an herb embedded phyllo basket with toasted almonds, on organic greens dressed with a sweet onion vinaigrette and feta cheese
... $15.75

... with mini ice cream sandwiches:

Mini Ice Cream Sandwiches
Locally crafted ice cream from Dee Dee’s in Peggy’s Cove, between two housemade ginger cookies
... $6

Fun Fact: The Wooden Monkey had a lot of vegan choices on their menus, such as chocolate tofu pie, and a lentil burger.

Once lunch was finished, my family and I traveled to Pier 21, to learn about the migration that went on between 1928 to 1971. At Pier 21, their were activities, presentations, interactive exhibits, etc. This gave us something to physically do from the World Peace Pavillion. After my family explored Pier 21, we headed back to the hotel for a bite to eat. When we were done eating, we decided to wind down in our room, and go to sleep.

Day 2

When I woke up, the time was already 10:00! I get up, but no one was there. Then I heard the door open, and there was my family with breakfast for me. They told me that I looked tired and let me sleep in. I then rushed down my food and we headed off for the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame. I found the Sports Hall of Fame extremely interesting and fun. This is mostly because I am athletic and enjoy playing sports. After spending a couple hours at the Sports Hall of Fame, my family and I had a very fast, late, lunch at The Chicken Burger. I decided to try a chicken burger. After the fantabulous lunch ( “cough cough” ), we drove to the Halifax Citadel Historic Site. I have never been inside of a citadel before, so this was exciting. I couldn’t believe the size of the citadel and the gardens. The citadel was the last of the places I went in Halifax, and the experience was thrilling. The day is ending and we are packing up for Sudbury. The past 2 days at Halifax taught me a lot about the history of Halifax. I hope to revisit it sometime.
